Scoping rapid linkage of communicable disease data – Ms Miriam Lum On, Director, Integration Development Unit, Data Governance and Integration Group, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare This session will have two parts: 1. Evolution of the National Health Data Hub: opportunities for research This presentation will showcase insights that can be generated from integrated health data sources, such as the National Health Data Hub (NHDH), managed by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). Through case-studies, this presentation will highlight how the utilisation of these data assets enables analysts to identify trends, predict health outcomes, and optimise resource allocation for healthcare delivery. It will examine the ethical, legal and privacy related considerations and challenges associated with use of person-level data in research and analysis and provide practical advice on access. 2. Scoping rapid linkage of communicable disease data This presentation will provide an overview of work undertaken by the AIHW for the interim Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC), which aims to build rapid and comprehensive data for actionable public health insights. This presentation will explore the requirements for rapid data linkage of communicable disease in Australia, including strategic and governance enablers, technology infrastructure, and data supply pipeline considerations. The presentation will highlight the options for rapid linkage to build on existing progress in the health data linkage landscape.

General introduction/background to national data linkage landscape

Abstract

Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the AIHW, Dr Bolevich was the Chief Executive of eHealth NSW and the Chief Information Officer for NSW Health and responsible for planning, implementing and supporting a digitally enabled, integrated and patient-centric health information environment. During his prior 25-year career, Dr Bolevich worked in a range of senior health management, information and communication technology (ICT) leadership roles in Australia and New Zealand.

Before joining eHealth NSW, Dr Bolevich worked at NSW Health as executive director for health system information and performance reporting and as acting deputy secretary for system purchasing and performance.

Dr Bolevich served as a member of the AIHW Board from 2016 till 2024. He is a Doctor of Medicine and has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Distinction.
