Bats have played a historic and ongoing role in the spread of viral disease to humans. In the wake of the COVID pandemic this was highlighted once again by the recent regional outbreak of Nipah virus. This will be a short tale about the infectious impact that viruses carried by bats have had on human (and bat) health, with a view toward what they may still have in store for the future.
